What Makes EDEA Boots Special

EDEA has redefined figure skating boot construction by combining Italian craftsmanship with advanced materials science. Every pair of EDEA boots is handcrafted in Crocetta del Montello, Italy, by a team of 144 skilled artisans who bring decades of shoemaking expertise to each boot. The result is a boot that is lighter, more responsive, and more comfortable than anything that came before it.

Handcrafted in Italy

EDEA's factory in the Veneto region of Italy is purpose-built for figure skating boot production. Each boot passes through the hands of dozens of specialists during the manufacturing process, from initial cutting and stitching to final quality inspection. This commitment to artisan production means every boot meets exacting standards for fit, performance, and durability.

Technomicro: Beyond Traditional Leather

One of EDEA's most significant innovations is the use of Technomicro, a proprietary microfiber material that replaces traditional leather in boot construction.

  • Consistency: Unlike natural leather, which varies in thickness and density from hide to hide, Technomicro is uniform throughout, ensuring predictable performance and break-in behavior.
  • Lighter weight: Significantly lighter than leather of comparable strength, contributing to EDEA's 25-45% weight reduction over traditional boots.
  • Water resistance: Does not absorb moisture the way leather does, helping boots maintain their structure and stiffness over time.
  • Durability: Resists stretching and deformation, so EDEA boots hold their shape and support level far longer than leather boots.
  • Vegan-friendly: Contains no animal products.
💡 Tip: Technomicro is used in the Ice Fly and Piano models. The Wave, Motivo, Overture, Chorus, Concerto, and Flamenco Ice use waterproof leather — still excellent, but heavier.

Thermoformable Tri-Layer Construction

EDEA boots feature a proprietary tri-layer construction that makes them thermoformable — meaning they can be custom-shaped to conform precisely to the skater's foot. The three layers work together:

Layer Material Function
Outer shell Technomicro or leather Structure and weather resistance
Middle support Engineered reinforcement panels Targeted stiffness where needed most
Inner comfort Memory foam lining Conforms to foot contours, eliminates pressure points

When properly custom-shaped, EDEA boots can feel custom-fitted from the very first session on the ice. Learn more on our custom shaping guide.

Honeycomb Footbed Technology

Inside every EDEA boot is a honeycomb-structured footbed designed to provide cushioning and airflow simultaneously. The hexagonal cell pattern distributes pressure evenly across the sole of the foot while allowing air to circulate beneath, keeping feet cooler and drier. This design also contributes to the boot's overall light weight without sacrificing support underfoot.

25-45% Lighter Than Comparable Boots

Weight matters enormously in figure skating. Every extra gram on your feet must be lifted, rotated, and landed thousands of times per session. By combining Technomicro construction, engineered internal reinforcements, and the honeycomb footbed, EDEA boots achieve a 25-45% weight reduction compared to traditional leather boots at equivalent stiffness levels. This translates directly into less fatigue, higher jumps, and faster spins.

💡 Tip: Pair a lightweight EDEA boot with a carbon fiber REV or Phoenix blade for the maximum possible weight savings. See our boot and blade combinations guide.

Anti-Shock System (Piano Exclusive)

EDEA Piano boot with integrated Anti-Shock system

The EDEA Piano, the flagship model, features an integrated Noene Anti-Shock system built directly into the sole construction. Two layers of Noene viscoelastic rubber are embedded in the inner and outer sole, dispersing up to 98% of harmful impact vibrations before they reach the skater's joints. A PORON heel insert provides additional targeted cushioning at the point of greatest impact during jump landings.

💡 Tip: Don't skate in the Piano? You can still add Noene protection with our aftermarket Noene Anti-Shock Undersoles — they fit inside any figure skating boot.

Waterproofing Standards

EDEA boots are manufactured to meet EN ISO 20345 waterproofing standards. This industrial-grade water resistance means the boots will not absorb moisture from the ice surface, wet blades, or condensation — a common problem with traditional leather boots that leads to breakdown, weight gain, and loss of stiffness over time.

Available Widths

Recognizing that skaters' feet come in all shapes, EDEA offers most models in multiple width options:

  • B width: Narrow
  • C width: Standard (most common)
  • D width: Wide
  • E width: Extra wide

Proper width selection is just as important as choosing the right length. A boot that is too narrow will create painful pressure points, while one that is too wide will lack lateral support and control.
