How to Clean Your Boots

Keeping your skating boots clean is about more than appearance. Dirt, moisture, and scuff marks left untreated can degrade boot materials over time, weakening the exterior and shortening the life of your investment. The right approach depends on whether your boots are made from Technomicro or leather.

Cleaning Technomicro Boots (Ice Fly, Piano, Wave)

EDEA's higher-level boots are made with Technomicro, a synthetic microfiber that is lighter and more moisture-resistant than traditional leather. It is relatively easy to clean but still requires a gentle approach:

Step 1: Prepare your cloth.
Dampen a soft cloth with warm water. Wring out excess so the cloth is damp, not dripping.

Step 2: Add mild soap if needed.
A small amount of gentle hand soap works well for stubborn dirt. Apply it to the cloth, not directly to the boot.

Step 3: Wipe the exterior.
Clean in gentle, circular motions, paying extra attention to the toe box, sides near the blade, and heel counter — these areas collect the most grime.

Step 4: Remove soap residue.
Rinse the cloth and wipe again with plain water to remove all soap.

Step 5: Air dry completely.
Let the boots dry at room temperature before skating or storing. Never use direct heat.

Cleaning Leather Boots (Overture, Chorus, Concerto, Flamenco)

Leather is a natural material that absorbs water more readily and can dry out, crack, or discolor if treated improperly:

Step 1: Dry wipe first.
Use a dry or barely damp cloth to remove surface dirt and ice shavings before introducing any moisture.

Step 2: Spot clean stubborn dirt.
For marks that won't lift with a dry wipe, use a cloth dampened with warm water and a tiny amount of mild soap. Work gently and avoid saturating the leather.

Step 3: Remove excess moisture.
Pat the surface with a dry cloth afterward to remove any water left on the leather.

Step 4: Air dry fully.
Let the boots dry at room temperature. Never place near a heater or use a hair dryer.

Step 5: Condition periodically.
If the leather feels dry or stiff, apply a small amount of leather conditioner. Avoid over-conditioning, which can soften the boot and reduce structural support.

💡 Tip: Technomicro boots are more forgiving with moisture, but leather boots should be wiped down after every single session, even if they don't look dirty. Prevention is much easier than repair.

Using EDEA Skate Polish

EDEA Skate Polish is a water-based, opaque formula designed to touch up scratches, scuffs, and streaks on EDEA boot uppers. It goes on smoothly with the included brush or a damp sponge, dries quickly, and leaves a clean, uniform finish without harsh chemical odors.

Choose the right color for your boot model:

Polish Color Boot Models
White Ice Fly, Piano, Wave, and Flamenco (white models)
Ivory Concerto, Chorus, Overture, and Motivo
Black All black-colored models
Tan Tan or beige models

To apply: clean the surface and let it dry, shake the bottle well, squeeze off excess product from the brush, dab the scuffed area with a thin layer, and allow the polish to dry fully before wearing.

Removing Scuffs and Marks

  • Black rubber marks (from boards or guards): Try a clean pencil eraser on Technomicro boots, rubbing very gently. On leather, a damp cloth with mild soap usually lifts them.
  • Surface scratches: Conceal with the appropriate color of EDEA Skate Polish.
  • Deep gouges: Cannot be fully repaired but can be reduced with polish. Prevent them by applying SK8TAPE to high-wear areas.

What NOT to Do

⚠️ Important: These common mistakes will damage your boots rather than help them. Avoid all of the following.
  • Never use harsh chemicals. Bleach, acetone, alcohol-based cleaners, and strong detergents dissolve adhesives, discolor materials, and weaken the boot structure.
  • Never machine wash your boots. The agitation, heat, and water saturation will destroy internal support layers and ruin any custom shaping.
  • Never apply direct heat. Hairdryers, radiators, and clothes dryers damage adhesives and deform the boot. Always air dry at room temperature.
  • Never submerge boots in water. Soaking saturates internal padding, which can take days to dry and may develop mold.
  • Never use conventional shoe polish. Street shoe polish contains solvents and waxes incompatible with skating boot materials. Use only EDEA Skate Polish.

Keeping Boots Fresh Between Cleanings

💡 Tip: These quick habits between deep cleanings will keep your boots looking and smelling their best.
  • Wipe boots down after every session, even if they do not look dirty.
  • Use EDEA Odor & Moisture Absorbers inside your boots during storage.
  • Always wear clean socks to each session.
  • Apply SK8TAPE to protect high-wear areas during practice.
